A Secure Relay-Assisted Handover Protocol for Proxy Mobile IPv6 in 3GPP LTE Networks

چکیده
The LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies defined by 3GPP is the last step toward the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile telephone networks. Mobility management for supporting seamless handover is the key issue for the next generation wireless communication networks. The evolved packet core (EPC) standard adopts the proxy mobile IPv6 protocol to provide the mobility mechanisms. However, the PMIPv6 still suffers the high handoff delay and the large packet lost. Our protocol provides a new protocol to reduce handoff delay and packet lost with the assistance of relay nodes over LTE networks. In this paper, we consider the security issue when selecting relay nodes during handoff procedure. During the relay node discovery, we extend the access network discovery and selection function (ANDSF) in 3GPP specifications to help mobile station or UE to obtain the information of relay nodes. With the aid of the relay nodes, the mobile station or UE performs the pre-handover procedure, including the security operation and the proxy binding update to significantly reduce the handover latency and packet loss. The simulation results illustrate that our proposed protocol actually achieves the performance improvements in the handoff delay time and the packet loss rate.

Current IP-level mobility protocols have difficulties meeting the stringent handover delay requirements of future wireless networks. At the same time they do not give sufficient control to the network to control the handover process. This paper presents an extension to Proxy Mobile IP, which is the favorite IP level mobility protocol for the 3GPP System Architecture Evolution / Long Term Evolut...

Machine to machine (M2M) communication, which is also known as machine type communication (MTC), is one of the most fascinating parts of mobile communication technology and also an important practical application of the Internet of Things. The main objective of this type of communication, is handling massive heterogeneous devices with low network overheads and high security guarantees. Hence, v...
متن کاملLTE-A Mobile Relay Handling: Architecture Aspects
Relaying is one of the new key features that has been defined for LTE-Advanced (3GPP Rel’ 10) in order to improve to and extend the coverage area among other advantages. In the 3GPP Technical Report [1] some architecture alternatives were considered for a case when relay becomes a part of the fixed access network. It is concluded in the report that the architecture based on proxy S1/X2 has more...

IP multicast allows the efficient support of group communication services. The increase in the use of multicast has also triggered the need for supporting IP multicast in mobile environments. It is necessary to consider current unicast mobility management solutions in IP-based networks to smoothly extend multicast services to mobile users. Proxy Mobile IPv6 is a network-based mobility managemen...
